Some companies are allowing their employees to work from home a few days a week before the pandemic begins. But it wasn’t until the COVID-19 outbreak began that remote work really took off.
Now that the COVID-19 situation is more manageable, companies are increasingly calling workers back into the office so they can do their jobs in person. But some companies continue to allow workers to do their jobs remotely to some extent by agreeing to mixed work settings.
Under these arrangements, workers do their jobs from home a few days a week and report to the office a few days a week. If your company allows you to operate on a hybrid basis, it is worth considering doing so, as you can reap these five benefits.
1. Lower costs of childcare and pet care
If you have children or pets, spending an entire day in the office could mean paying someone to look after them. But if you’re able to work from home even once or twice a week, it can seriously lower your pet and childcare costs.
2. Low transportation costs
In case you haven’t noticed, the cost of gas has been on the rise lately. If you don’t have to go to the office every day, you may be running less than a credit card tab at the pump. This in turn leaves you with more money to pay your remaining bills.
3. Better work-life balance
When you are never at home, it is difficult to keep up with some of the responsibilities, such as cooking, washing and many more things that it requires to maintain the house. A hybrid arrangement can make you spend less time on the road and more time at home, as there are plenty of tasks to cross your list. Plus, if you’re home a lot, you may be able to easily commute to your children’s school to enjoy springtime play or help out for a 30-minute book fair.
4. A chance to get an interview with your manager
When you’re never in the office, it can be difficult to interact with your manager. But the more face-to-face time, the closer you are to getting a promotion – it could be your ticket to more money.
5. Easiest time to collaborate with colleagues
It is possible to collaborate with co-workers from afar. But at this point, a lot of people are tired of Zoom and tired of computer meetings. If you come to the office a few days a week, it may be easier for you to work jointly with other people and build or strengthen these relationships.
If you’re used to working remotely, you may not want to go back to the office at all at this point. And if you’re tired of working remotely, you might prefer spending five days a week in the office. But rather than going either extreme, it pays to consider the perks of setting up a mixed business.
