All you need to know about the BMW i7 2023
BMW The canopies of the all-new luxury sedan of the seventh generation have taken over as a mixed bag. This is the most technologically advanced car from BMW to date, but it also has a questionable face. Regardless of this controversy, the hottest model in the 7 Series lineup is the all-new BMW i7.
Beamer’s first fully electric saloon is a revelation. It packs the same battery and powertrain technology as the BMW iX but has been reset and refined for a more luxurious experience. But it is the interior that screams of opulence. It’s a modern art installation with glass, wood, leather, cashmere and giant screens.
BMW offers a host of comfort and technology features to spoil you, and will also provide a 31.3-inch theater projector screen for your cinematic needs. The design might take a while to get used to, but it’s definitely moved in the right direction.
That dubious face aside, the BMW i7 2023 opens a new book on all-electric luxury spaceships.
BMW i7 equipped with an electric motor of 536 hp
The BMW i7 uses a similar powertrain setup as seen on the BMW iX, but with more power and smaller batteries. It uses a 101.7 kWh battery pack paired with a twin motor design to generate 536 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. The i7 is able to do 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 149 mph.
Comfortable ride with dynamic support
While the BMW i7 2023 is considered a luxury yacht, it still has some sporty characteristics. It shares the platform with the gas-powered 7 Series but with notable modifications. It has a two-axle air suspension setup with automatic self-leveling and electronically controlled dampers on all fours.
Switching between different driving modes can change the ride height from 0.4 inches to 0.8 inches. And a BMW version of the rear-wheel drive called Integral Active Steering adds even more agility to this luxurious long saloon. It can rotate the rear wheels up to 3.5 degrees in the opposite direction at low speeds and the same direction at high speeds.
2023 BMW i7: Driving range and charging technology
BMW claims the i7 is good for a driving range of about 300 miles on a charge. When charging from, BMW mentions that the software has been further developed to further cool the battery pack, which in turn translates to lower charging times.
The US-spec i7 will come with an 11 kW internal charger that supports DC fast charging up to 195 kW. With this fast charging technology, the i7 can charge up to 80 miles in just 10 minutes. BMW is also working with Electrify America to provide three years of free express charging with every i7.
Questionable exterior but looks elegant nonetheless
The talking point of the 2023 i7 is its design language. We understand that a unique perspective is required to differentiate the upcoming new wave of electric cars, but hasn’t BMW strayed far from it already?! First it was the M3 and M4, then the BMW XM concept, and now the all-new 7 Series. What’s wrong with the face?!
A blessing in many ways may be practical, but the new i7 is not attentive. And the backend isn’t good either. The entire design looks somewhat patchy and the lines do not flow to form a complete entity. But then again, the proportions are in place, and the design will eventually grow on us.
Dimensions are increased compared to the outgoing 7 Series, and even the electric car follows the good old long hood and extended saloon layout. There are subtle blue inserts throughout the body to remind us of the electrified interior, because the design is identical to the petrol-powered 7 Series.
Stylish interior with screens and more screens
The interior is one of the best modern luxury salons available! And unlike some electric cars that throw screens in your face, the i7’s dashboard is much more welcoming with a single curved panel focused on the driver. It packs the instrument cluster and infotainment display into two 12.3-inch screens, powered by the latest iDrive 8 interface.
The dashboard is divided in two by an artistic layer of clear polycarbonate body that also doubles as the ambient light strip. It looks great and also changes color based on driving modes or moods. The upholstery is a mixture of leather, cashmere and Alcantara. There are plenty of storage spaces all around.
But the eye-catching feature is the optional theater screen rear entertainment system that adds a giant 31.3-inch touchscreen that rotates beneath the i7’s panoramic roof. It’s the ultimate theater experience on wheels. All of its controls are integrated into a touch screen integrated into each of the door panels. You can enjoy all streaming applications thanks to the 5G connectivity feature built into the car.
2023 i7 Packs BMW’s best in terms of safety
Adding to the i7 suite of technologies is a full suite of driver-assist features. It includes what looks like BMW’s Highway Assist system that will be exclusive to North America at launch. It enables hands-free driving and is a small step forward towards autonomy. The i7 also packs in Mobileeye’s sensor technology and has an OTA upgrade capability for active security, infotainment, and entertainment features.
