Virtual Processing uses this routine to run its six-figure business

  • Kelly O’Sullivan McKenna began her own practice, Sit With Kelly, in February 2021.
  • The Sit With Kelly program is fully functional and intended to assist aspiring therapy clients and therapists.
  • Here’s how McKenna spends the day, including client sessions and running the business.

Kelly O’Sullivan McKenna began her therapy practice in February 2021 after working in the nonprofit mental health industry for nearly six years. The pandemic gave her opportunities to work virtually with clients face-to-face, an experience that sparked her interest in opening a business of her own.

Last year, her mental health company, Sit With Kelly, booked $250,000 in revenue — which included client work, business training, consulting, and social media deals, documents verified by Insider show. On any given day, her time can be split between client therapy sessions, aspiring therapist training calls, and creating digital content, such as Instagram videos explaining social anxiety and posts with tips for managing burnout. Although there are several branches of her brand, McKenna intentionally tailors her daily schedule to best suit her business needs, working only 30 hours a week.

“I’ve tried a lot of different ways to do this over the past two years,” she said, adding that she decided to split her tasks based on the day of the week. You see clients on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and provide Wednesdays and Fridays for administration, job training, and social media content photography.

While McKenna makes a living by helping others manage fatigue and anxiety, she also struggles with her mental health. In Mental Health Awareness Month, McKenna told Insider how she defines her days to manage her anxiety and her advice for creating a work-life balance that works for you.
