Coca-Cola stopped drinking this drink at the end of the year – don’t eat that
Some of the grocery store’s longtime favorite snacks and desserts will be back soon, but another drink under the Coca-Cola umbrella is about to disappear for good. The company has just updated fans about its honest streak, revealing that bottled tea will be discontinued completely by the end of 2022 after nearly 25 years.
The drink comes in flavors like Half Tea & Half Lemonade, Honey Green Tea, Peach Tea, Pomegranate Blue, and more, but will soon be phased out and replaced on grocery store shelves by HONEST Kids. According to Coca-Cola, the juice box-style children’s prepared beverage brand is growing rapidly, while the original option has faced tough sales and limited glass supplies.
Older lovers of ready-to-drink tea should not worry about the lack of alcohol – the Gold Peak and Peace Tea brands will remain part of the company along with HONEST Kids. Gold Peak and Peace Tea have seen an increase in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic as both cater to more health-conscious shoppers and have “multi-service” packages perfect for drinking at home. On the other hand, HONEST is mainly sold in single-use bottles.
“Ongoing supply chain challenges mean that we have to prioritize production and distribution of SKUs for certain products, and that we have not been able to meet consumer demand for Gold Peak,” Sabrina Tandon, Group Director, RTD Tea, Coca-Cola North America Operations, said in a statement at the unit. The company’s website. “This, among other factors, helped make this very difficult decision.”
Tandon says they don’t expect the discontinuation to be a huge loss to consumers — noting that many honest tea lovers also buy Gold Peak as well. For those who might struggle to get what they’ll have once the year is over, here are 12 healthy teas on grocery store shelves.
