Tesla China drone video shows huge fleet ready for Q3 export
Tesla China may have had a lot of challenges in the second quarter, but the company seems very intent on recovering and getting revenge in the third. Initial hints of these efforts were noticed recently when drone videos taken at Luchao Port, about 6 kilometers from Giga Shanghai, showed a huge fleet of Teslas waiting to be exported.
The fleet of Teslas spotted in the area was large, with initial observations from the Tesla community indicating the vehicles numbered in the thousands. The majority of Teslas cars that could be seen in the drone bridge were Model 3s. Local news reports indicated that the vehicles will soon head to Europe.
Drone footage was introduced by a Tesla observer long ago woo wowwho has been following the progress of the China electric car maker’s operations since it began initial ground-clearing activities at its Giga Shanghai complex in late 2018. According to a Tesla observer, the assembly of vehicles at Luchao Port comes as Tesla China unloads out of Giga Shanghai Holdings’ stakes .
This is not surprising given that Tesla typically focuses in the first half of the quarter on exports and the latter half on the domestic auto market. Tesla missed a significant number of exports in the second quarter thanks to the Giga Shanghai halt in production, so it makes sense for the company to double down and make sure it exports as many vehicles as possible in the third quarter, at least before Giga Shanghai needs to focus its resources on the domestic Chinese market.
While Giga Shanghai’s production is already very impressive, Tesla is already working to ensure that its production in China will improve in the near future. Back in February, reports surfaced that Tesla was looking to double its vehicle production capacity in China by building another facility near Gigafactory Shanghai. With both facilities fully enhanced, Tesla’s production is expected to reach about 2 million vehicles annually.
Tesla China is a key component of the company’s overall operations. With Giga Shanghai serving as a major vehicle export hub for the company, Tesla China currently ensures to supply Europe and other foreign territories with Model Y Model 3 sedans and crossovers. However, Giga Shanghai may be carrying a little lighter in the future, especially as Gigafactory Berlin increases production of the Model Y Y.
