The survey found that New York is the best city for farmers’ markets
New York City is known for having some of the most vibrant and diverse farmers’ markets across its streets. Lawn Love, a lawn care service, did a study that only confirmed that New York is one of the best places to host a farmers market.
In celebration of National Farmers Market Week, which ran from August 7-13, Lawn Love decided to delve deeper into farmers’ markets across the country.
According to “The 2022 Best Cities for Farmers’ Markets” written by Sav Maive, New York City ranks high on the list. Lawn Love took into account city access, weather, average consumer spending, and how well the markets are ranked based on consumer reviews. They also looked at the types of products farmers sold, such as dairy products, produce, and baked goods.
The arrival and convenience of New York City propelled it to the top of the list. “Farmers’ markets help keep the city connected, giving New Yorkers a chance to get out of their apartments and into the community,” Maeve said. “It is not difficult to register fresh produce or artisanal treats in a walkable city with more than 130 farmers markets.”
Even in our cold winters, New York City stays ahead as Lawn Love ranked it the best cold city to walk around for its bountiful winter farmer’s markets.
California cities, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Salinas, ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. The Golden State is known for its agricultural prowess. California grows more than a third of the country’s vegetables and dominates the organic market.
