Syngenta Seedcare and Bioceres Crop Solutions collaborate to bring innovative biological seed treatments to the market
Basel, Switzerland and Rosario, Argentina – (work wire) – Customers seeking cutting-edge biological seed processing solutions will benefit from the global commercial and research and development collaboration announced today between Syngenta Crop Protection’s Seedcare and Bioceres Crop Solutions (NASDAQ: BIOX), a leader in biological crop productivity solutions.
Bioceres is a major provider of bio-pollination, including rhizobia, that improve crop nutrition and support plant growth. This solution applied to seeds helps crops, such as soybeans, capture nitrogen from the atmosphere and greatly reduces the need for nitrogen fertilizers – supporting renewable agriculture. Biological seed treatment products such as pollinators, antibiotics, and biostimulants rely on microorganisms and their metabolites, plant extracts, and other naturally occurring substances. The global market for biological seed processing is expected to grow from $0.6 billion in 2020 to $1.6 billion by 2030.
The collaboration between Bioceres and Syngenta builds on a successful business partnership of more than 20 years in Argentina. Under the agreement*, Syngenta Seedcare will become the exclusive global commercial distributor of Bioceres solutions for biological seed treatment, with the exception of Argentina where it will continue to cooperate under the existing framework. Within the framework of long-term research and development cooperation, the companies will jointly initiate the development of new products while accelerating the registration of products already in the pipeline.
Jonathan Brown, Global Head of Syngenta Seedcare, said: “The agreement with Bioceres reinforces our strategy to provide farmers with more complementary options to manage pest resistance and improve crop health. We draw strengths from our longstanding relationship with Bioceres and are fully committed to providing growers with more sustainable innovations to improve seed health. ”
“This announcement demonstrates the value of our commercial offering and our R&D capabilities, and significantly expands and accelerates our ability to reach more growers with Syngenta Seedcare’s global reach,” said Bioceres CEO Federico Trucco. Biological products play an important role in offering farmers new solutions to increase crop yields while decreasing the ecological footprint of agriculture. We believe this collaboration with Syngenta will allow us to advance on those goals more quickly at a time of great global need for new solutions. ”
Syngenta Seedcare and Bioceres will expand their cooperation in key markets such as Brazil and China, as well as in other regions around the world. Implementation of the Agreement will be subject to regulatory approvals.
*Bioceres will retain global rights to use its biological solutions on HB4® crops, which have been modified to better withstand drought events. Marrone Bio Innovations portfolio, recently acquired by Bioceres and marketed by ProFarm Group, a major subsidiary of Bioceres Also outside the scope of the present agreement.
